Your new role As a Senior Legal Assistant, you will play a crucial role in supporting the legal team with various tasks related to personal injury and tort cases. Your responsibilities will include: Communicating effectively with clients, adjusters, opposing counsel, and other stakeholders to ensure clear and timely information exchange. Assisting in the drafting of pleadings, affidavits, and court documents, ensuring accuracy and compliance with legal standards. Utilizing Soluno for docketing and tracking all assigned tasks, maintaining organized and up-to-date records. Handling correspondence under the direction of the assigned lawyer, ensuring professional and efficient communication. Scheduling discoveries, mediations, pre-trials, and settlement conferences, coordinating with all parties involved. Maintaining the lawyer’s calendar and file list, ensuring all deadlines and appointments are met. Liaising with the Accident Benefits Department to facilitate the acquisition of necessary documentation. Using MedChart to obtain medical records and other relevant documentation required for case preparation. Ensuring court filings are completed accurately and in a timely manner, adhering to all procedural requirements. Handling the service of originating processes, ensuring proper delivery and documentation. Requisitioning cheques for payment of various invoices, managing financial transactions related to case expenses. What you’ll need to succeed To excel in this role, you should meet the following requirements: A minimum of 3-5 years of experience as a Legal Assistant, with a strong background in Personal Injury Law or Insurance Defense. Exposure to institutional sexual abuse claims is considered an asset, providing additional insight into complex cases. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and 365, enabling efficient handling of documentation and communication tasks. Previous experience with legal software such as Filevine, Soluno, and MedChart is highly desirable, ensuring seamless integration into the firm’s systems. Exceptional organizational and multitasking skills, allowing you to manage multiple cases and tasks simultaneously. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, facilitating effective interaction with clients, colleagues, and other stakeholders. The ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team, demonstrating initiative and teamwork. A thorough knowledge of Ontario legal procedures and documentation, ensuring compliance and accuracy in all tasks. A keen eye for detail and a commitment to accuracy, ensuring high-quality work and minimizing errors.
