The Crump Group Inc., a large & rapidly growing pet food manufacturer based in Mississauga, Ontario and Nashville, North Carolina is seeking a dynamic, results oriented HR Director for the Mississauga location. Job Overview – To ensure the effective operation of the Human Resources department within approved budgets and provide overall direction related to department in alignment with the organization’s mission, vision, values and strategic priorities as set by the Board of Directors. This role will report directly into the President. Roles and Responsibilities: Participate as a credible Senior Management team member on respective Director Business leadership teams, providing HR expertise, guidance and counsel – both from an organizational perspective, and where appropriate, to individual leaders as a “coach”. Proactively collaborate with management to address and identify solutions to improve the business through strategic people processes and addressing employee problems. Work closely with management and employees to improve working relationships, build morale, increase productivity and enhance retention. Serve as an associate champion to ensure that processes and relationships are fair and equitable, that communications are transparent and that conflict is managed effectively. Guide actions to improve overall employee satisfaction. Provide guidance and input on business unit restructures, workforce planning and succession planning to ensure the “right” talent is in place for the organization. Serve as lead in staffing efforts, providing direction and implementing strategies to address needs. Provide both strategic and day to day performance management guidance to line management; engage, as appropriate, in conversations with individual employees, inclusive of coaching, counselling, career development, and disciplinary conversations. In partnership with other labor/employee relations experts, manage and resolve complex and day-to-day employee relations issues. Conduct timely, accurate and equitable investigations. Represent the company in compliance activities, reporting (e.g. Equal Employment Opportunity and Affirmative Action) and hearings involving employees within area of responsibility. Assess program and training needs specific to departments; partner with department heads to ensure value added delivery in areas including, but not limited to: interviewing, hiring, development, succession planning, employee exits / terminations, compensation, performance management, employee satisfaction, diversity, equity and inclusion and harassment to ensure not only compliance with company policies and federal, provincial and local laws and regulations, but also to build companies strategic organizational capability. Follow up to ensure Health and Food Safety objectives are met. Provide HR Policy guidance and interpretation, and ensure compliance is adhered to in area of responsibility. Participate in special human resource projects as business dictates. Keep abreast of emerging HR innovations, technology, laws, etc. (through formal or informal study, networking, professional development) to ensure credible and current functional leadership and expertise is sought after. Conduct one-on-one effectiveness coaching with senior leaders to improve leadership capability or the resolution of leadership gaps. Coach managers and leaders to facilitate organizational change and model an inclusive environment. Identify where change is needed and contributes to the development of interventions that improve leadership and team performance to achieve strategic imperatives for organization(s)/business(es) Strategy Clarity & Alignment. Recipe for Success: Bachelor Degree with major course work in Human Resources Management, Labor & Industrial Relations Business, Public Administration or a closely related field required / Master’s Degree with course work in Human Resources Management, Labor and Industrial Relations preferred. Eight (8) to ten (10) years’ experience in human resources in progressive HR roles over multiple locations, including strategic responsibilities as well as prior HR generalist experience required. Minimum five (5) years previous experience in a leadership role. Demonstrated breadth of experience and knowledge of human resources practices and processes (benefits, compensation, payroll, recruiting, training, administration, time and attendance) required. Extensive experience in the successful resolution of sensitive employee and/or labor relations issues along with the ability to handle sensitive and/or confidential documents and information required. knowledge of company policies and procedures along with all federal and provincial employment regulations. Experienced in the administration of visa, immigration and expatriate processing required. Demonstrated leadership skills, both in influencing a complex organization, managing an HR department and change management required. Strong bias for action and demonstrated ability to drive assignments to closure within stated schedules. Ability to communicate and interact effectively with people from multi-functional and diverse backgrounds. Ability to effectively deal with issues and move them forward using the appropriate HR channels while earning the right to be at the table early to provide expert counsel and consultation to business leaders on their strategic plans. Domain experience in a variety of HR disciplines including Organizational Design & Effectiveness, Employee Relations and Compensation. Graduate degree in HR or related field (CHRL or equivalent is an asset) 10 years of relevant HR experience, HRBP experience is essential.
