About the role: Reporting to and assisting the Engineering Manager in the Glencore North American Closed Sites (NACS) group in managing the requirements of Glencore’s Fatal Hazard Protocol (FHP 5 Ground / Strata Failure) requirements for the NACS through the implementation and maintenance of ground control management plans (GCMP) at NACS. In this role, you will: Conduct routine visual inspections and audits of mining hazards and features at NACS to ensure continued ground control safety. Geotechnical data gathering, joint mapping and other field data gathering to support the ground control management plan. Conduct and participate in Risk Management processes related to ground stability. Provide geotechnical stability assessments for underground and open pit excavations. Plan, develop, and coordinate geotechnical data acquisition, data analysis, and geotechnical site characterization for mine closure projects. Implement and manage instrumentation and monitoring systems for ground stability such as InSAR, borehole extensometers etc. Ground control incident investigations and analysis. Design and implementation of remediation and prevention strategies. Collaborate and engage with the technical personnel at the closed mine sites, NACS Management, consultants and external organizations to execute geotechnical projects at the mines. Assist with definition of geomechanical domains, stability analyses, and technical report preparation. Maintenance of monitoring equipment installed on site. Training of site personnel for Trigger Action Response Plan programs. Conduct crown pillar stability investigations Participate in group assurance audits related to ground control management Other duties and assignments as required by the Engineering Manager Qualifications: A Bachelor’s degree in geological or mining engineering, with 5 years of operational experience in geotechnical engineering at both underground and open pit mine sites. Designation as a Registered Professional Engineer in the province of ON (Advantageous) An advanced graduate degree(s) in a geological or mining engineering (Master of Science) with specialized focus on rock mechanics and rock engineering Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English, strong organizational skills, able to manage and prioritize several assignments at one time with a view to delivery of quality products on time Demonstrated technical excellence in geomechanical engineering Demonstrated Project Management skills including scheduling and budgeting with the ability to lead, train and mentor junior staff Proficient in Geomechanical numerical modelling using industry standard software. French language skills will be considered an asset Has good learning and problem solving skills Has excellent communication skills and must be a self-starter Is flexible, adaptable and a good team player Has ability and willingness to travel within North America.
