My client – Industrial Plankton designs and manufactures high-tech algae bioreactors with the goal of improving global food security and reducing greenhouse gases through advances in biotechnology. I’m excited to support them in their search for a highly motivated, energetic Engineering Manager with a strong entrepreneurial spirit. Reporting directly to the Chief Operating Officer, and having three (and up to six) direct reports, you will be leading a multidisciplinary team of electrical, software, and mechanical engineers, and working closely with our biologists and external clients, to further develop existing products, develop new products, and test new concepts. You will be responsible for allocating people and financial resources for defining requirements based on production, and assessing and meeting , and clients’ needs to deliver high-quality equipment in accordance with Industrial Plankton’s design philosophy and standards. What You’ll Do Project & Product Leadership Lead projects from concept through to production, including requirements generation, design, documentation, testing, and integration. Build and manage project timelines and budgets based on scope and available resources. Prepare risk assessments and mitigation plans to ensure project success. Take ownership of engineering issues and drive resolution. Team & People Management Conduct regular team meetings, track performance metrics, and provide coaching and feedback. Foster a positive, collaborative, and high-performance team culture that supports knowledge sharing and continuous improvement. Complete performance reviews and support individual development plans. Step in to contribute to design work when team capacity allows. Design & Technical Oversight Establish engineering and design requirements based on leadership input. Review electrical and software systems for technical accuracy and compliance. Oversee engineering changes and documentation management. Contribute to engineering design as needed, with a focus on embedded systems and power electronics. Production & Cross-Functional Collaboration Work closely with the production team to ensure seamless handoff of documentation and assembly requirements. Collaborate with the Supply Chain Manager to support part acquisition and substitution with appropriate engineering solutions. Support customer service with high-level technical input and help resolve customer issues as required. OR counter-commute from Victoria and breeze to work in just 20-30 minutes What You’ll Bring A degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics , or a related field, combined with significant hands-on experience in hardware, firmware, and system-level development. 3–5 years of project management experience in a product-driven environment. Strong technical background in; e mbedded systems, power electronics, PCB design, as well as assembly and wiring of AC/DC electronic systems A demonstrated ability to lead multidisciplinary teams while maintaining technical involvement. A proactive, “roll-up-your-sleeves” attitude and comfort working with minimal supervision. A passion for working in, and supporting staff, to thrive in fast paced, development focused environments. Exceptional attention to detail and an ability to balance multiple projects and shifting priorities. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey technical concepts clearly. Experience in aquaculture or familiarity with the sector is considered an asset.
