Resume Due Date: Tuesday, April 08, 2025 (5:00 PM EST) Location: 889 Brock Road South, Pickering (Hybrid – 2 days remote) Duration: 24 months ⏳ Hours: 35 hours/week Hourly Rate: $70 – $83/hour Vacancies: 15 8 Mechanical Engineers 1 Electrical Engineer 1 I&C Engineer 5 Engineers (preferred experience in Nuclear Boilers and Feeders) Job Overview The Senior Design Engineer (MP4) will be responsible for conducting and overseeing engineering work related to power generation, transmission, and distribution. The role requires expertise in engineering design, technical analysis, project coordination, and regulatory compliance , ensuring high-quality design solutions that meet OPG’s standards and nuclear regulatory requirements. The successful candidate will: Lead and coordinate engineering design activities, including technical analysis, cost estimation, and material selection . Conduct or arrange for studies and analyses related to project efficiency, economic feasibility, and engineering challenges. Oversee contract specifications, procedures, and compliance with nuclear standards . Manage design phases , conduct site visits, and liaise with customers, contractors, and vendors . Analyze designs to ensure they meet project objectives, economic feasibility, and technical specifications. Provide technical guidance to internal teams and ensure smooth project execution. Act as a Design Team Leader (DTL) for projects, leading engineers and coordinating engineering services. Represent OPG in committees, task forces, and stakeholder discussions . Stay informed about the latest engineering technologies, methodologies, and regulatory changes . Key Responsibilities 1. Engineering & Design Responsibilities Conduct or arrange for engineering and scientific analysis related to power generation, transmission, and distribution . Apply technical expertise to solve engineering challenges , including defining and optimizing designs. Develop and oversee engineering specifications, procedures, and cost estimates for large projects. Ensure project design parameters meet economic feasibility, safety, and technical standards . Perform site visits to collect data, review progress, and interact with contractors/vendors . Ensure compliance with Canadian nuclear regulatory requirements, applicable codes, and quality assurance standards . Develop and review Engineering Change Control (ECC) packages in alignment with OPG Nuclear governance. Provide oversight for EPC and Non-EPC contracts and ensure project adherence to Fit for Purpose (F4P) principles . 2. Engineering Oversight (EOS) & Quality Assurance Provide technical oversight (EOS) for engineering modifications and deliverables to ensure compliance with OPG’s procedural and quality expectations. Ensure that engineered solutions meet the plant’s design basis, safety standards, and performance requirements . Conduct design reviews, risk assessments, and quality checks before implementation. Work closely with Design Service Providers (DSPs) to ensure high-quality deliverables . Implement lessons learned and best practices to enhance design quality and efficiency. Advocate for engineered solutions that prioritize constructability, operability, and maintainability . 3. Leadership & Team Management Act as a Design Team Leader (DTL) for various engineering projects. Provide technical guidance, mentorship, and training to junior engineers. Organize and assign work responsibilities, ensuring quality, accuracy, and efficiency . Foster a collaborative work environment , ensuring alignment between engineering, construction, and project management teams. 4. Stakeholder & Vendor Coordination Interface with vendors, OEMs, and manufacturers to ensure compliance with OPG’s technical requirements. Travel to vendor/manufacturer locations as needed for technical discussions and quality checks . Act as a representative on committees, task forces, and engineering review panels . Engage with internal and external stakeholders to ensure project objectives are met . 5. Continuous Improvement & Compliance Monitor and implement new engineering methods, materials, and technologies . Support process improvement initiatives to optimize design, reduce costs, and enhance safety . Ensure adherence to nuclear safety, environmental compliance, and OPG governance requirements . Maintain an awareness of industry standards, nuclear regulations, and OPG’s engineering policies . Qualifications & Experience ✅ 6 years of relevant project engineering experience (preferably in the Nuclear Engineering environment ). ✅ Experience working in a fast-paced, technically complex environment . ✅ Strong written and verbal communication skills , comfortable leading meetings and presentations. ✅ Knowledge of OPG’s Engineering Change Control (ECC) process & project life cycle . ✅ Experience interfacing with vendors, OEMs, and manufacturers . ✅ Willingness to travel to vendor locations if required. ✅ Ability to understand and manage complex stakeholder relationships . ✅ Strong problem-solving skills and an analytical approach to project execution . ✅ Experience working with station operations, scheduling, and work control . ✅ Design Engineer Qualification (QUAL 33685) required . ✅ P.Eng License is an asset .
